Cascia is a pilgrimage destination for people from all over Italy thanks to the Sanctuary of Saint Rita, dedicated to the patron saint of impossible causes. The current basilica, built between 1937 and 1947 in Neo-Romanesque-Gothic style, houses the saint's body and stands on the remains of the original monastery where Rita lived as an Augustinian nun.
The historic center, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Valnerina, retains its medieval layout with alleys, stone portals, and the Rocca Albornoziana. In addition to the sanctuary, the Museo di Palazzo Santi is worth a visit, as it houses evidence of local history.
A stop for spirituality and history just 25 minutes from the farm stay, easily combined with Norcia on the same day.
