In the heart of Borgo Cerreto, the Mummy Museum (Baronio Vincenzi Documentation Center) displays the naturally mummified bodies found during restoration work on the church of Santa Maria Annunziata: four adult individuals, dating to the Renaissance period based on the clothing found with them.
Open to the public since 2011, the museum uses anthropological study of the finds to recount daily life, diet, and medical practices of the era in Cerreto di Spoleto. Since 2018 it has been home to a postgraduate specialization course in mummy studies from the University of Pisa, confirming the scientific value of the collection.
An unusual and fascinating visit, just 5 minutes from Il Borgo.
